Students will have an understanding of the video & audio process for television production.
Students will learn to shoot professional videography.
Students will perform as members of a production crew.
Students will learn how to operate a variety of video, audio & editing equipment.
Students will learn how to create pre-production tools: treatments, scripts & storyboards.
Students will learn how to produce & direct videos.
Students will learn basic lighting techniques.
Students will learn about the Digital post-production process.
Students will learn about broadcast Journalism.
Students will learn how to perform as On-Camera talent.
Student will become an accomplished visual storyteller.
Students will learn about studio and field production.
SEMESTER PROJECTS MAY INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO:
Morning News Crew
Taping of Winter & Spring Sports and Evening Cultural events for VSEN (2 tapings required)
Produce & Direct weekly segments for Morning News Show incorporating current events: Sports, Weather, Weekend Things to do - movies to see -film critic – Cyber Guy - Cougar Corner = casual introduction to faculty/student from our school community. Class Act Segment and produce fun entertaining videos
Produce “Cougar Den” Talk Show for Comcast Channel 18 VSEN

Grades:
Grades will be obtained through four distinct forms of assessment. Each will play a role in the final calculations according to the chart below
Video production theory assessments /Script Writing/ Prep for Success 25% These will measure attainment of Video production theory.
Video Portfolios 40% Video portfolios will be graded. Students will be rewarded for keeping accurate notes and records during the production process. Projects will be graded according to performance-based assessment scorecards. Record keeping is a very important part of job performance in the broadcasting industry.
Equipment/software Competencies 15% Students will receive credit for demonstrating their ability to operate the equipment per training and written instructions handed out in class.
Participation/Work Ethic 20% Includes all group projects, in class and field productions. Assessment will be accomplished through awarding points each week, based on teachers perception of the amount contribution to class discussion, independent work on class assignments, general work ethic, and team building activities with fellow classmates.
As most work is done in class, attendance is extremely important, just as in the real world work environment. Missed work must be made up in order to receive any credit. Deduction will be made for late work.
Two outside class HKTV productions required!
Throughout the semester, students will receive progress reports that incorporate the assessment forms.
